Avigdor Lieberman is one of Israel's longest-serving and most recognizable political figures.

He has held senior ministerial positions and played a prominent role in coalition negotiations over many years.

His party, Yisrael Beytenu, is entering the 2026 election with proposals involving national security, universal service, constitutional reform and the relationship between religion and state.

Those priorities are not entirely new.

Many have formed part of Lieberman's political identity for years.

This creates a legitimate question for an experienced politician: which proposals remain unimplemented, and what would make their adoption more feasible in a future government?

Ofer Winter, who leads the newer Amcha Israel party, has made military service and national security reform central priorities as well.

Winter's military background differs substantially from Lieberman's long experience in elected office.

But this difference should not be mistaken for an automatic contrast between effectiveness and failure.

Lieberman has an extensive political record that can be scrutinized. Winter's proposed policies have not yet been tested through comparable national governing responsibilities.

The relevant comparison concerns their specific proposals and ability to form agreements.

Lieberman advocates a broad constitutional and secular reform agenda in addition to security policy.

Winter's platform places greater emphasis on service, national identity and his preferred security doctrine.

Both would require parliamentary partners to implement their programs.

For Lieberman, the question is how a future government would overcome the obstacles that complicated earlier reforms.

For Winter, it is how his party could convert its priorities into enforceable legislation.

Political experience and political renewal are distinct attributes. Neither replaces the need for a detailed governing plan.
