The chairman of Israel's Central Elections Committee, Supreme Court Deputy President Noam Sohlberg, authorized a meeting between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Police Commissioner Daniel Levy on Sunday, two days before the election, over the formal objection of Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara, according to a report by The Times of Israel. Sohlberg barred any discussion of election-related matters or topics under the committee's jurisdiction.

Coalition lawyers justified the meeting by citing what they described as "dramatic and serious security alerts" from defense bodies regarding threats to election-day operations. Baharav-Miara pushed back, stating there is "no place whatsoever for involvement by the political leadership" in managing elections, and said she was unaware of any precedent for a sitting prime minister and national security minister to meet privately with the police commissioner so close to a vote.

The opposition Yashar party objected directly to the Central Elections Committee, with its attorney warning the meeting could be used to manufacture a "false public perception of flaws" intended to undermine the credibility of the results if Netanyahu's bloc loses. Party chairman Gadi Eisenkot went further, accusing Netanyahu of attempting to "sabotage the election."

The dispute reflects a broader anxiety among opposition figures that Netanyahu's camp is laying the groundwork to contest the outcome, should Tuesday's vote go against him.
